The Guam Student Film Club is a 4-month long free program for high school students aimed to educate young adults to responsibly engage with and produce media to create positive outcomes. Activities will include critical film screenings, guest filmmaker workshops and the creation of a short film/PSA by the students. The short film/PSA will reflect issues and themes that are relevant to students' lives.

The Guam Student Film Club aims to teach students the effects of media as well as how to responsibly receive, produce and share media to create positive outcomes. Through this program, we wish to empower youth to become active and responsible members of their community. Our activities will include critical film screenings with discussions, hands-on content creation, and workshops with guest filmmakers. Through this program, we anticipate the students will learn skills to allow them to create and ingest content critically, in a media-driven world. Many of the skills that the students learn will also be applicable when the students inevitably enter the job market. Some of these skills include communication skills, marketing and team building. Parent permission forms and code of conduct forms will need to be signed at the beginning of the program. 

Activity Instruction:

Students must make an effort to attend club meetings. Each meeting will take place every Saturday at 1pm to 3pm, from Feb. 2 to June 15 at the Guam Public Library System in Hagatña.
Be prepared to learn and participate in activities. Expect to have a lot of hands-on experience that will require teamwork and open communication.

Reflection Instruction:
In order to earn service learning hours, you must submit a reflection to a teacher at your school who can record it in Power School. Answer the following in your reflection: What did you do? What did you learn? What skills learned do you think you’ll continue to use in your life? How do you think your activities were a service to our community? How will you continue to use your skills for our community? Note to seniors: Since the program ends after the end of the school year, you will need to finish your project earlier in order to earn your service learning hours. For all other grades, you can ask your teachers in the following semester to input your hours.
