Monthly Observances - Ribbon Awareness

Monthly Observances - Ribbon Awareness

Do you have transportation issues but access to the internet is not a problem? Here is a service learning project for you? Learn about ribbon awareness and share this with your friends, family, and community.

This is meant to be an independent project. Because you will be doing this without a teacher or adult supervisor, you will need to be very responsible about documenting your hours and the work that you did. Get the approval of a teacher who will support you in this project and grant you the hours if  you meet the objectives.

Preparation Instruction:
Make sure you have the support of a teacher who can grant you the hours if you complete this project.
Look up upcoming monthly health or social issue observances online and research it. Google: Ribbon Awareness and related search terms. Find out what color is being used for the ribbon for this monthly observances.

Activity Instruction:
Buy a spool of ribbon that matches that month and prepare ribbons for this observance.

Plan who you will share this information with. Possible ideas are: health class, student government meeting, church meetings, organizations.

Reflection Instruction:
In order to earn service learning hours, a reflection needs to be turned into a teacher who can input the hours into Power School. You need to address: What did you do? What did you learn? How was this an example of public service? How did you show that you demonstrated the ability to be a health advocate?
